Mumford & Sons

I fell in love with Mumford & Sons last year, when I was going through a very hard time. Their music touched me in a way that not many artists do. Their lyrics, their music, it was all perfect. I listened to their album over and over. Their newest album is even better!

I had been checking their website every few months for new tour dates that might include a stop in Seattle, but they have spent the majority of their time overseas. Well, much to my surprise, they have a show in LA in November, and this is THE ONLY US show at least for 2012. I miraculously scored tickets to the show and my friend and I are going down for the weekend. I can’t wait! In addition to the show, there’s a couple other things I’m going to drag him to in Hollywood, so I think it will be a really fun couple of days.

In preparing for the show, I’ve been listening to their songs, over and over, and one song in particular continues to jump out at me each time I hear it. The words speak directly to my heart, to the hurt, pain and hope that continues to pulse through it. And the music matches the emotions in the lyrics just beautifully. Each time I hear it, it brings a tear to my eye, and a breath of hope to my lungs. I’ve posted the lyrics below and encourage you all to go listen to it on youtube if you haven’t heard it yet.

“You saw my pain, washed out in the rain
Broken glass, saw the blood run from my veins
But you saw no fault no cracks in my heart
And you knelt beside my hope torn apart
But the ghosts that we knew will flicker from you
And we’ll live a long life
So give me hope in the darkness that I will see the light
Cause oh that gave me such a fright
But I will hold as long as you like
Just promise me we’ll be alright

So lead me back
Turn south from that place
And close my eyes to my recent disgrace
Cause you know my call
We’ll share my all
Now children come and they will hear me roar
So give me hope in the darkness that I will see the light
Cause oh that gave me such a fright
But I will hold as long as you like
Just promise me that we’ll be alright

But hold me still bury my heart on the cold
And hold me still bury my heart next to yours

So give me hope in the darkness that I will see the light
Cause oh that gave me such a fright
But I will hold on with all of my might
Just promise me that we’ll be alright

But the ghosts that we knew will flicker from you
And we’ll live a long life”
